The disease that was found infecting the lifeforms of the Southern Ruins holds immense promise to be the starting point for potentially thousands of new drugs and treatments that could cure diseases ranging from cancers to autoimmune disorders to blindness. Here I have recorded some of the most noteworthy tests and reports from our studies.

Through unknown means, the patient contracts End Plague. The infection seems to always begin in one of the eyes, likely because they are easily exploitable.

Our first samples have arrived. They were taken from various plants found in the bottoms of the old mineshafts; the pathogen is thought to have been what allowed them to "survive" in complete darkness for so long.
We first had to attempt to cultivate it in a petri dish. This was a difficult task, as the conditions we usually use for this seemed to kill it. A dark and cold environment seemed to work much better, and since then, we've had a steady supply to experiment with.

''Subject: [[Delta]]''
We need to be more careful from now on.
Delta, a patient in moderate stages of infection, caused an incident today at 13:48. When Nurse ██████ attempted to administer IV fluids, Delta "spontaneously teleported to the empty bed in the next room," according to an eyewitness. While this is not the first time a patient had unintentionally swapped their own matter with air in a nearby location, Delta's blood, gastrointestinal fluids, and cerebrospinal fluid all failed to transfer with the rest of his body, resulting in instantaneous death and "a giant, bloody mess to clean up."
Based on this and similar incidents, it is clear that the middle stages of infection are the most dangerous. All physical "harm" of any type, which is known to cause this type of transportation, is to be highly discouraged for patients in these stages.''November 3, 1993''

The lab has been contacted by someone we don't know, saying he would pay us greatly for some samples of the disease. After researching the phone number, we discovered that he works for a military research facility. Further questioning revealed the desire to infect troops with a controlled version of it to create super-soldiers.
We don't take too kindly to helping the military.''December 23, 1993''

Quite some time has passed since the tests on rats, which seemed to be immune to the disease. Even samples of wildlife taken from the Southern Ruins, species that had been spotted infected in the past, would never progress past initial stages of infection.
However, a citizen who was the first human to display what are believed to be signs of the infection came to us after the local hospital was left dumbfounded. Hereafter referred to as [[Beta]] for reasons that will be explained in later reports, he was placed into quarantine to monitor each stage of progression.
The initial stage seemed to only involve the eye. A small amount of infected particulate had made its way into the patient's cornea, causing discomfort and blurry vision in the affected eye and causing a pitch-black dark spot to appear.''Objective: Study how the End Plague affects physical fitness''
---
Procedure:
0. Each patient in the earliest stages of infection will be tested on a treadmill for endurance and sprint running, and with weights to see how much they can lift.
0. Patients will be tested multiple times as the infection progresses.
---
Results:
0. Four patients were selected: [[Epsilon]], [[Zeta]], [[Iota]], and [[Mu]]. These patients in particular were chosen to test a wide range of physiques.
0. Each patient scored differently at the beginning stages of infection, which was expected.
0. As the disease progressed, each patient became more and more similar in their physical output. Sprinting speed and lifting strength increased greatly (especially in the slowest and weakest patients), while endurance suffered (especially in the patients who scored highest in the endurance test).Double-click this passage to edit it.Double-click this passage to edit it.Double-click this passage to edit it.Double-click this passage to edit it.Double-click this passage to edit it.''Interviewer: Dr. Argon''
''Interviewed: [[Gamma]]''
''Date: February 16, 1994''
---
Background:
Gamma, age 9, had always kept to herself, being generally cooperative even as the End Plague took an unexpected toll on her mentality. At the time of the interview, she was in Stage 3. As such, Dr. Argon took care to never make eye contact.
This interview shows some of the first recorded instances of altered speech.
---
Log:
''Dr. Argon:'' Hello, Bella^^`[1]`^^. Would you mind answering a few questions for me?
''Gamma:'' Um... okay, Doctor.
''Dr. Argon:'' Don't worry, it's nothing bad.
''Gamma:'' ...
''Dr. Argon:'' So... what happened yesterday? You know, with Angel^^`[2]`^^?
''Gamma:'' He said h(text-style:"mirror")[hhh](text-style:"condense","upside-down")[hhhhee](text-style:"outline","upside-down","shudder")[eeee] would "████ing fight" me if I didn't give him my Teddy.
''Dr. Argon:'' I see.
''Gamma:'' Then he looked i-into my eyes, and I heard him say he'd (text-style:"italic","upside-down","fidget")[kill me].^^`[3]`^^
''Dr. Argon:'' Noted.
''Gamma:'' I dunno what happened after that. I closed my eyes, and opened them, and his face was all red and the grown-ups were putting an eye patch on me.
''Dr. Argon:'' Thank you, Bella.

Notes:
After the incident described in the interview, Delta suffered several cuts and bruises to the face and lips. One cut was bad enough to need 4 stitches.

`[1]` Gamma's given name.
`[2]` Delta's given name. At the time, Delta was in Stage 1.
`[3]` While the rest of what Gamma says was found to be true through security camera footage, this was not. Other witnesses confirm that Delta never said this.''Name:'' Bella Ray
